About Sorgenti

Download our brochure here.

Fattoria La Sorgenti are the passionate creators of the beautiful Tuscan wines Sghiras, Scirus, Gaiaccia and Respiro Chianti Colli Fiorentini. As well the beautiful Vin Santo we call Infinito and delicous olive oils.

These ancient vineyards have been the property of Elisabetta and Gabriele Ferrari since 1974. Quality has been steadily raised by Gabriele's immaculate vineyard work, while Filippo, their oenologist son, is responsible for vinification and elevage of these award winning wines.

“It is the squirrel that has chosen Le Sorgenti populating its park and woods. Full of energy and with its curious and careful character he is the keeper of the forests and the symbol of continuity, taking care of carefully burring part of his stock of food for the winter time, he allows new generations of trees to grow.  It is the squirrel the animal with whom we want to identify our estate and our philosophy he as us is the passing keeper of the greater patrimony, the Earth”

These are the words use by Gabriele Ferrari to explain the choice of the estate logo and his feelings towards the propriety that since 1974 he has grown with his family.
Viticulture and expert of olive trees he personally takes care of the countryside as his wife Elisabetta Ferrari, administrates the estate and with great passion she dedicates her self to gardening and apiculture.
A Family moved by passion and profoundly tied to earth that has transferred eighth patience and trust to there son Filippo Ferrari casting towards growth and innovation.
The natural evolutional growth has lead Filippo in a degree in winemaking and in a passion toward the commercial direction, and through the cooperation of a young Sommelier Christian Giorni who takes care of PR of the Estate and Agriturismo, becoming the spokesman of there wine for Italy and the hole World.
A young, dynamic and purposive reality, that does not forget the importance of the conservation of nature and of guaranteeing in the products and in receiving guests a high quality standard.

The Land
“Le Fleuve fait beaux le chateaux”. This old limerick of Bordeaux vigneron reminds us of the importance of the river in creating the unique microclimate of the estate.
The Arno River frames “Le Sorgenti in this ancient and variegated land a few kilometers away from the center of Florence. Built in the 1300 the estate know under the name of “l’Alberigna” was enlarged in the centuries from the families that lived in it, transformed in “Villa” from Cosimo Bardi in 1585. The Bardi family maintained the propriety of the Villa until 1885 year in which the “Fattoria Le Sorgenti” comes to life from the hands of the Pillori family.
Purchased from the Ferrari Ricci family in 1959, the villa bears its actual name to three ancient water springs, “Fonte Gaia”, “Fonte del Re” and “Fonte del Noce” all still active inside the propriety.
The total extension reaches 58 hectares of which 16 are vined, 12 are cultivated with olive trees.

The Vines
The vines cultivated are the precious and traditional ones of the Tuscan viticulture tradition.
The vines are thought and grown to produce wines destined to be all “Cru” production.
Capaccio, Torre Rossa, la Sala, Pozzo delle Fate, La Tavolina, La Terrazza, Le Sorgenti e Gli Istrici are the names of the vineyards of the Estate, each one with their unique peculiar characteristics.
Grapes are assisted in respect of the different pedoclimatical needs of each year and each wine is evoluted looking for quality, typicality and excellence. The work in the vineyards is done manually with a calibered running of each plant with balanced Guyots and cordons, to concentrate all of the microclimate typicality’s of the terroir.
The theories of bio balancing and organic fertilization are integrated by pondered use of antiparasites.
In the pre-vintage phases monitoring work is concentrated and meticulous, through organoleptic and chemical-physical analysis, necessary to determine the ripeness of fruits, once ready it is manually harvested only.

Vineyards are delighted by a happy exposition to sun, rich of skeleton and organic substances they are regulated by good thermical excursions which sustains a limited and precious production.

THE PASSION

To an important heritage such as earth, a profession is tied, that ties the passion for nature to the will of expressing art through wine. Fillippo states “ Wine is an important vehicle of expression, we communicate our self through it, our taste our personality is tied to earth through wine”. Cristian continues “It is not a job that end at the end of the day. Wine is human, it has body, mind and soul, as wine lives it improves in time, it needs respect and know how first of all”. On the same false line the words of Gabriele: “ being able to transform and evolve at its best what nature donates it is for us a moral duty, compared to conducing a child in the journey of life”. Gabriele ads: “Body and soul tell of a person. Through the person wine tells its tale. Magic created from man for man to express the joy of living and giving space to the lightness of our own spirit.
